Set the size and create your PDF
Aspect ratio stays locked: changing one dimension adjusts the other.
Your PDF is ready
Download PDF- In the print dialog choose “Actual size” or “100%”: “Fit to page” changes the centimetres.
- Choose A4 paper and the same orientation (portrait or landscape) as the PDF.
- Check the 50 mm line in the PDF with a ruler before trimming anything.
For posters: follow the rows and columns, trim along the dashed lines and glue the repeated area. Crop marks and page numbers guide you.
How it works
A3 measures 29.7 × 42 cm: the equivalent of two A4 sheets tall and two wide. With poster mode and these dimensions already set, the tool generates 4 A4 sheets with 5 mm overlap and trim marks. Assemble them in a 2 × 2 grid and you have an exact A3 without a large-format printer.
Everything happens in the browser: the image is not uploaded anywhere and the PDF is generated on your device. That is why it works the same for personal photos and work documents, and why the maximum size depends on your device memory, not on any server.
What it is for
A3 posters for shops
Offer signs, opening hours and menus in A3: the most requested size for small shop windows.
Decorative prints
Download an art print and print it in A3 for a fraction of what a copy shop charges.
Plans and diagrams
Work plans, wiring diagrams and sheet music in A3 to read them comfortably on the desk.
Before you print
- Scale at 100% or “actual size”, never “fit to page”.
- A4 paper selected on the printer, with the same orientation as the PDF.
- Normal or high print quality: draft mode can lighten thin lines.
- First test on plain paper; photo paper only once the size is right.
- Verify it with the calibration sheet: print it and measure the 10 cm square with a ruler.
Frequently asked questions
Why 4 sheets and not 2?
A3 is exactly double an A4 along the long side: 29.7 × 42 cm. In portrait, an A4 is 21 cm wide, so you need 2 columns; and 42 cm tall asks for 2 rows. Total: 2 × 2 = 4 A4 sheets, with a small overlap for gluing.
A3 or 30 × 40 cm?
They are not the same: 30 × 40 cm is a very common frame size and also comes out as 4 A4 sheets. Enter 30 wide and 40 tall if the frame is 30 × 40; enter 29.7 × 42 if you want an exact A3.
What resolution does A3 need?
For a sharp A3 (300 DPI) you need about 3,500 × 5,000 pixels; an A3 viewed from an arm’s length looks presentable from half of that. If the image is a recent phone photo, it is usually plenty.
Landscape or portrait?
Choose the orientation that fits the image: portrait A3 (29.7 wide) for portraits and signs, landscape A3 (42 wide) for panoramas and plans. The tool lays out the A4 sheets in the orientation you pick and the grid works itself out.
